It really wasn't. If you look past the poorly aged special effects, the Showa era is far more gruesome and horrifying than anything the Heisei era has to over. There are a lot of episodes, especially in the 70s, that involve people being murdered, melted, dissolved, or transformed into exploding flying squirrels. Compare that to something like Wizard, where the monsters' primary mission is to make people sad.

I think the most heart-breaking moment was when Shigeru said he wasn't strong enough, especially since he goes by Stronger. Well I am definitely emotional right now but alas I will continue on as I can't wait for more of Stronger.

I've heard that Tackle was actually going to be revived if Stronger hadn't been cancelled at 39 episodes. Not sure how accurate that information is, though. It would have been cool since a revived Tackle would probably meant that the character would have shown up more in later team-ups, but it would have also removed a lot of the emotion and power from her death scene (kind of like how Riderman's original self-sacrifice was cheapened when he just showed up again with no explanation).
