The action director, Sakamoto then requested Yayoi to become the second female writer to which the writer, Sanjo and ultimately also the producer agreed and they later even added a third female with Yuuko taking over as Cyan.
The statement was embarassing, but the show itself wasn't as it did play out as quite the opposite with some really loveable and cool female characters, both on the hero and villain side. So much for that.

I rewatched Toqger just a few days ago and honestly, I found it to be quite the contrary of sexist. I mean, it would be pretty ironic if it was, considering the author was a woman herself.

Well, from your argumentation against my point, it pretty much turned into that. I said I was fine with the current colors and you said it's not fine because you found it sexist. So we're technically still on topic here, but yeah, as this discussion seems to be going in circles from here on.
