Guardian of Darkness - I didn't know anything about this anime before going in. I have mixed feelings for Masami Obari since I either like or hate the stuff that he works on. Oddly enough, I end up liking this anime much more then I thought it would. This anime was much darker then I thought it would and I thought it would be another generic sci-fi anime. I end up getting pretty dark henshin style anime with supernatural Japanese folklore. The animation for a early 90's anime was good for its time and you do have really well done action scenes in this anime. All of the battles are a lot of fun to watch and none of them are bad. All of the characters move and look nicely. The anime didn't look cheap for its time. Not to mention, the monster designs in this anime are pretty epic.

The story could have been better since there is things in it that made no sense and left me confused at times. The main characters are pretty good and I did care about them. The main female character does good through some decent development over time and our main hero is a pretty fun character. I would need to rewatch this anime again and see if I understand things better the second time. The dub is not so very good expect for the demonic voice effects. There is a lot of mispronunciation of the Japanese names in the dub and it can be annoying at times. You are better off watching this anime subbed instead.

This anime is not perfect, but I did had a lot of fun watching it. I would give it a second watch soon. If you like anime such as Tekkaman Blade and Bubblegum Crisis or Toku such as Ultraman (There is a Ultraman reference in Episode 2) then give this anime a try. Grade: C+
