Well, Ohranger also was doomed through circumstance since its plot was darker than usual and had themes that didn't go over so well since 17 days after the premier was the infamous Aum Shinryko subway Sarin attacks. Which at the time went over as well as a Towering Inferno remake set to release on the August 31 weekend of 2001 in the US.

Hence why you have stuff like that scene of Ohranger Robo and Red Puncher playing basketball, they quickly had to revamp the show and make it a bit lighter, but even then it still didn't get many views as no one wanted to watch a show with Ohranger's premise. And they were SO low that if toy sales weren't good they were at serious risk of cancellation, IIRC.

And that's why we then got a comedic series about a gang of intergalactic reckless drivers coming to earth and our heroes fighting them with the POWER OF TRAFFIC SAFETY!!! Which in turn was MUCH more popular at the time since it didn't take itself seriously at all.
