So I watched the first disc (1-5) to Gundam Wing and I've decided that I'm going to try to react as if I have never seen the show before just to make it a bit easier to describe my thoughts on what I watch. Plus, like I have said before, it has been six years since I watched the show last, which was well before I watched Zeta, ZZ, and 00. Anyway, the show is off to a slow start. The Gundam pilots have been introduced and so far, only Duo leaves any sort of impression. The rest are mediocre at best to no personality at all. The Deathscythe is freaking awesome though while the Wing Gundam is clearly a Zeta Gundam wannabe. The other three exist. Zechs "I'm totally not Char" Marquise is pretty one dimensional so far, but what is confusing is how he says no one has ever survived a Gundam confrontation before, but how is that even possible when Gundams have never existed yet? How would he know this? Treize doesn't seem all that great right now either. The worst of the batch though are Relena and an-Noin-ing as they are just terrible. Relena needs to just die while Noin is way too obsessed in her own little universe of naivety. The best aspect of the show is hands down the music. Unfortunately, being that the disc is from 2000 (my first anime DVD ever), it looks atrocious on a HDTV. In fact, this show really needs to be remastered as its animation looks inferior that the animation of Zeta Gundam, which was 10 years prior.
Okay, with that said this is also the first time I am watching the show dubbed since DVD Volume 5 came out and the main character voices match pretty well with their Japanese counterparts. The third string characters though kind of suck. Thankfully, the script itself is pretty accurate for the most part and Scott McNeil is just as perfect as Duo as Toshihiko Seki. David Kaye also does a great job with Treize while Brian Drummond is no Takehito Koyasu.
