Ehh... I wouldn't be so sure. Sentai continuity is so notoriously tricky, it's best not to even think about reconciling the disparate series. Setting aside the fact that I simply do not believe that any Sentai team would stand idly by as another threat ravaged their town/country, it's logistically impossible based on the rules set forth in each show. For example, how does one account for there being five separate causes for the extinction of the dinosaurs? Zyuranger, Abaranger, Boukenger, Go-Onger, and Kyoryuger each show us a different, definitive cause. And that's just the tip of the clusterfuck ice berg. If you look only at what's broadcast on TV, every Sentai has to exist in its own world (of course, there are a few exceptions -- like Gokaiger, Ninninger, Denziman, and Sun Vulcan -- but those are distant outliers).
Shared continuity is not a concern for Toei and the Sentai staff.
BUT
. If you must torture yourself with how they all fit into one cosmology (i.e., if you're like me
), you should consider the
Versus Universe Theory
.
This theory proposes that every Sentai series is set in its own unique universe, and in addition to those 40ish universes, there is a another -- the Versus Universe -- where all of the Sentai teams co-exist. That alternate universe is where every Versus movie, Gokaiger, and Ninninger take place.
Not only does the Versus Universe Theory make sense of the movie crossovers (which are, by and large, never referenced in the TV series) -- it solves the continuity issues found in almost every Versus movie (i.e., how can X-Sentai be fighting X-Villain with X-Mecha when X-Villain was destroyed before X-Mecha was introduced). It also explains how the same actors can play different characters in different series (e.g., Kou's mom also being The Commander from Jetman).
It's not a perfect solution, and it's not remotely official, but it's the best one we've got.
