The climax involves all the Rangers systematically sacrificing their lives one by one so the Red ranger can deliver a final blow to the big bad, dying in the explosion as well.
The comedy relief character and 6th survive, and it's revealed that the mentor was actually the true big bad and plans on doing it all over again in a few years, only for the spirit of the 6th ranger to kill him and use his life energy to shift the universe slightly, so all the rangers survive the climax, but none of them have their powers and they become complete amnesiacs.
