I just watched Garo Ashura too and while admittedly it wasn't a whole lot, I'd go as far to say it was better than almost the entirety of Makai Retsuden save for maybe the last 2 episodes.

It was amazing to see Kaoru back with a young Raiga, and framing it like a story was a great idea since it worked so well with the green screen backdrops. A while series done like that wouldn't work well, but for a one-off special it was perfect. The acting was passable and while there wasn't much in the way of choreographed fight scenes, the armour stuff at the end more than made up for it.

Then to top it all off Savior in the Dark plays over the credits. I'll will NEVER get tired of that song.
