Well, tokusatsu in general is never really super continuity heavy unless something is a direct sequel. I think all you really need to know is "There were monsters on Earth in the past and Ultramen fought them". It looks like this isn't set in the main continuity but one where various Ultramen all fought on earth in the past.

It is the 50th anniversary, so there will be callbacks to stuff I'm sure, but it's also Tsuburaya's first show in this new time slot and I think they'll make it easy enough for viewers to get into.

That was my main fear going into this one as well, particularly with the Shin character, but they came off as being fun to watch. Like, I felt as if they were an actual group of friends. I'm hoping that a much smaller cast allows them more screen time and development than usual.

Also, for those that like Easter eggs, each episode is going to have a pretty subtle reference to a moment from the franchise's past and I'll be serving up translations of that from Tsuburaya's website on a weekly basis.
