I guess I've heard so little good from Young Hunters that I associated the negativity with Xros Wars itself.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I liked it. But then, I like a lot of things that aren't necessarily that popular to begin with.

There definitely is a lot of criticism slung at Xros Wars, especially since it changes up the mechanics so much, and it's not like all of it isn't legitimate or it's a perfect series or anything. It suffers as much as any other from the fact that there is an unparalleled amount of focus in the main red and blue kids, and even among Digimon series with Xros Wars it gets pretty crazy. I also personally liked the structure of the story, but thinking on it I think one could easily view the way it progressed as repetitive....and there were a lot of mons I liked just because they had entertaining voices or quirks, which I doubt is as big a seller with most people.

I do think it has a lot of good points though. There's a lot of Digimon in the series, and despite being partnered with only a couple of kids, they all (mostly) get their own stories and development, which is a bit of a new thing for the franchise. The main kids who aren't the main character also develop a fair bit.

But, yeah, there's definitely a lot of negativity surrounding most of the later Digimon series, and Hunters is the one where I really do think it's warranted. Xros Wars gets its fair share of criticism, but watching Hunters just makes me appreciate it even more than I already did.
