Okay, so I've been reading the, newish to English readers, ULTRAMAN manga by Eiichi Shimizu (script) and Tomohiro Shimoguchi (art) and love it. Not being wildly into kaiju big battles (but LOVING Kaiju Big Battle!), I've never been more than mildly interested in Ultraman stuff. This book, however, is perfect for the Henshin Head that I am in that it's way more Kamen Rider human sized action (no giants so far) with crazy armor and upgrades etc.


Kinda Kamen Rider / Iron Man-ish

Of course, this led me to look these guys up to see what else they did and one was a (pro-quality) doujinshi manga called Hybrid Insector which, apparently, follows the classic Riders after they are devolved into "Hybrid Insectors" and hunted down (I guess, I haven't read it yet). It's apparently super grim & gritty and got quite popular which led Toei to say "ehhhhhhhh... stop that, please".



Well, fast forward a bit and with a few official books under their belts (no doubt, Tsuburaya's Rider-esque ULTRAMAN was a bit of a pulled eyelid "nya!" to Toei) and, oh my, how things have changed! Toei and gang have made up and an official new book Hybrid Insector: Zero will be unveiled at the 90th Comiket!
