I'm in no way implying that their approach here is necessarily a good thing, or the right way to go about things either. That's like saying if they made a Bruce Wayne Batman that was super Bayformer overdetailed and had an organic cowl with no ears or nose and no cape or bat symbol and it had no actual design cues from Batman except the exposed mouth, anyone who complains clearly just wants the Adam West suit.

We've done body suited superheroes before, and better. Look at Black Panther. Full bodysuit that isn't spandex. Looks badass.

Except, one, they don't look just like the show. They still have the organic, more detailed look, just used effectively and with taste. They even ditch the belts, boots and gloves and just keep the center chest diamond. And second, it's not unoriginal if it's the the same fucking brand. Making Optimus Prime look like Optimus Prime isn't unoriginal. Making Optimus Prime look like Voltron is unoriginal. If your source material is the actual source material, that's not a lack of originality, it's the all too rare philosophy of "make shit look like what it's based on."
