Maybe it's not lazy insofar as concept designers and costume designers put a lot of work into actually drawing and constructing the suits, but it's certainly uncreative when it's the same tired style Hollywood gives anything alien these days. There's nothing distinct or iconic about these looks, half the helmets look like they're the same damn sculpt. And the zords are literally just ripped right off of the AOE Dinobots. And that's an executive decision. The actual people hands-on working on this movie are obviously far from lazy.

You know what was creative? Those vehicle-like zord concepts that were speculated to transform from practical vehicle modes to animal-like mech modes. That was a great idea, as it kept the giant robot dinosaur concept but put a clever and pragmatic twist on it. And they didn't look like generic TF movie characters, the T-rex at least still evoked the colours and shapes of a blocky, but functional robot so much that despite only ever seeing the vehicle mode, it still clearly felt like it wa sthe T-rex zord. They weren't the best designs ever, but they were a step in the right direction as far as making this film feel distinct.

And that's really the crux of it all. Yes, technically the suits don't identically resemble Iron Man in details or aesthetic. However, the fact that everyone keeps comparing them to Iron Man tells us enough. To people, the Power Ranegrs aren't armoured, or covered in lots of little metal spikey details. They're people in bodysuits, and they don't have to be spandex. Marvel, again, has plenty of characters in "tights" that aren't cheap spandex suits. The fact that thay chose a look that feels directly in spite of the original designs is why people don't like them. When they made Man Of Steel, for as much as I dislike that costume, they didn't armour him up and give him a ton of little contrasting colour details in the form of layered pieces of metal. They kept it a bodysuit, added a texture, and added minor details and embelishments here and there. But he still looked like Superman. And that was also an alien costume.
