[Tokumonkey]

A while back, I picked up Gokai-Oh, not realizing at the time that it was the original, somewhat-problematic release. (I'd been semi-aware of the Starburst version, but was under the mistaken impression that it only came in translucent plastic, which appeals to me in no way.)

I was delighted, then, when I ran across inexpensive solid-color versions of Gokai Jet and Gokai Racer on Mandarake. I bought them with the intention of using them to replace the current limbs, but as I was assembling them, I was struck by the opportunity inherent in taking apart the old ones to combine them with the differently-colored sets. (In this way, I'm grateful I hadn't attempted to paint the original.)

The newer set didn't have much color separation, it's just that the base color is more appropriate. When I realized I'd have the sticker the green wheels on Gokai Racer to look black, it dawned on me that I didn't have to. I prised the original apart to repurpose the elbows, fist, wheels, and nose. I did the same with the Jet, swapping blue for black where appropriate.



Here's a question for you: why do you think they included two hats - one in blue and one in black - with Starburst Gokai Jet? In my picture, I left the blue one on Gokai Jet to see how it looks both in jet and combined modes.

I'm thinking about picking up Starburst Gokai Marine if I can find it, although that's the limb I actually preferred looking darker. It doesn't look like there are color differences for the Starburst Galleon and Trailer, so I'll likely pass on them unless there's something I'm missing. (If I really want to do Gokai-Oh's Starburst attack, I'll bust out my SRC. I bought the minipla due to (a) loving minipla and (b) being able to re-create Shinken Gokai-Oh, Hurricane Gokai-Oh, etc.)
