She feels like Martha because she feels like a filler companion. She is only there because the show is too scared to not have the Doctor have a human with him.

As for speaking, she is the only character in the show I have an issue hearing at times. Although, it doesn't help that the sound on these episodes seems excessively low compared to the other seasons. And this is with my receiver turned up as high as I can go (it's just a general issue with Comcast though because it happens during Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, iZombie, Samurai Jack, etc. I think Better Call Saul is the only show that doesn't have this issue).
