This episode really tries to sell us Emu and Kiriya friendship, how much Kiriya impacted on Emu, and thus how shocking his betrayal at the end is (although obviously something is up with that). The big problem however is well, Emu and Kiriya were only really buddies with each other for about an episode and a half at best. This is precisely the reason why I thought they shouldn't have killed off Kiriya back in Episode 12. His relationship and development with the other characters at the time didn't have much meat to them. So when we get to this episode where Emu talks about how much Kiriya has helped him and there's all this emotional weight to him siding with Masamune of his own free will, it all just kind of falls flat in my opinion. That isn't to say the scenes in this episode weren't good. They just lacked the amount of set up needed to have much impact. That's honestly a problem Ex-Aid has as a whole. I feel alot of its heavy plot moments lack the set up needed to give them that emotional punch to it. It's almost like the complete opposite of Ghost. Say what you want about that show but I thought Ghost had great build up and set up for its plot moments even though those plot moments weren't executed the best.

To continue the set up problem, Kuroto. While I was not oppose to him becoming a good guy, this episode and the last two to extent, made me realize how easy his join to the good side was. Especially after all the crap he has done, all the people he manipulated and all the people that died because of his actions, there should be alot of tension to having him as an ally but there really isn't. I suppose Episode 31 where he saved Poppy from Parad was supposed to be that character defining moment where he shows that he does have good qualities and thus complete his transformation as a good guy but that was the only episode at the time that showed these hidden qualities of his. Beforehand, he was just emphasized as a crazy, arrogant, petty asshole.

I don't want to sound like I hate this episode, I don't but it's making me realize alot of problems Ex-Aid has. Also the victims of the week continue to be lame, I seriously wonder why even bother to include them in the story at this point.
