Also, I was never really in to the franchise, but ever since I found out Platinum Games made a game of the robot buggers, I've grown more fond and now I realized I may actually enjoy the franchise. Anything I should watch to see if I like the franchise?

Well Transformers Animated it really good, and I personally liked Prime. I'd definitely recommend the IDW comics as well, they've done pretty good so far.
