This is actually my runner-up choice. You are right, it actually did grasp the theme of the original show well. As for reboot Takumi, apparently the actor just one day vanished into thin air and they could not reach him for that movie taisen film. The reason I chose Ryuki was it was the most fun and the actors really felt top notch. Kamata/Abyss crushed it, Shinji was an interesting re-imagination not being a bumbling idiot like the original Shinji. Fusing Okubo and Reiko into one whole new character was a nice one as well.
