Akira really hit the jackpot in a season full of characters that, while not exactly bad, aren't really that interesting. He's a great fighter, an entertaining character, and his constantly developing backstory means there's a whole lot more depth to him then just about anyone else in this show. The fact that he's the child appeal character probably helps his case even more since most people wouldn't expect such a character to have as much depth as he does.

I'm fine with characters not having a deep backstory or developing or anything like that but these guys are just so bland and lacking in any unique characteristics. That being said, I really like Kenta. Just as much as I like Akira in fact. His character, while pretty simple, is one that I enjoy very much and I tend to find his focus episodes very entertaining to watch.
