You consider Kiva to be something dour? I wish Kiva had been less "goofy", as it was it wasted a lot of its material. As for Amazons, that show is closer to Shotaro Ishinomori's original ideas for Kamen Rider than many of the overly saccharine stuff like Ghost or even Drive, despite the good material those shows did manage to have.

Superhero media ought to have some larger meaning and value beyond mere escapist entertainment. What's the point, otherwise? You can have comedy, but most of what Toei considers comedic in Sentai and Rider now is stupid and annoying rather than funny.

I quit PR years ago: Japan simply had better quality material. I will occasionally take a peak at the latest Saban incarnations out of morbid curiosity, and wince at the bad dialogue.
