Hey, I managed to get one of these out in less than two weeks.
I'm not sure how the Go-Onger mecha names are romanized. I've seen a number of places have "O" instead of "Oh" and I've seen just as many that do the opposite. I've put them as "Oh" here to be consistent with other series that have this naming scheme but does anyone knows what it's supposed to be?
Engine-Oh
The first aspect most people will notice about Engine-Oh and of any of the Go-Onger mechas are the "big googly anime eyes" as Ziggy from RPM puts it. It's certainty something that's going to put off a lot of people and while it make sense in context since the Engines are living beings, it is a little weird. I've personally gotten used to them and thus can focus on the other parts of Engine-Oh which I think are pretty good. I like the sort of totem pole stacking going on, with blue at the bottom, yellow in the middle, and the red on top. The proportions are fairly nice, as it the details around the body and the head design. It's an all around solid looking mecha. The Go-On Sword is a bit dinky however. Also I'm not covering any of the arm combinations such as with Birca or Gunpherd since the other mechas already use those configurations.
GunBir-Oh
GunBir-Oh is......odd. Not bad, just kinda weird in a lot of aspects. The heel shaped feet are one thing, though that's something I think only the toy has since the live suit probably would of fallen over if it followed that design. It's also very oddly proportioned, with the large alligator chest, the tiny shoulders, and the huge weapon arms made from Birca and Gunpherd. Said arms are kinda neat in how they transformed, like how the back axle wheels on Gunpherd become a scope and how the three wheels on Birca come together to sorta form a fist. The head design, specifically the helmet is also similarly odd. I get what it's trying to go for with the engine pipes but it just kinda looks like it has piped shaped hair. GunBir-Oh is just all sorts of weird, I'd say it's my least favourite out of all the individual mechas.
Engine-Oh G6
Engine-Oh G6, the first of many multi-mecha combinations we'll be having. Now G6 is still somewhat restraint. It's really only added Birca and Gunpherd as arms, the entirety of Carrigator as feet, and a new head piece. It is a bit ridiculous seeing Engine-Oh with these huge alligator feet but they do add to the sense of G6 having a lot of bulk to it. I really do like how the shoulders are changed up in formation, it really helps give G6 some distinctiveness from Engine-Oh. The new head also manages to utilize the engine pipe details from GunBir-Oh much better. G6 is a pretty nice looking combination, but it's not gonna stop here.
Seikuu-Oh
Seikuu-Oh, the Go-On Wings personal mecha. Certainty a lot more slim and sleek than the previous two mecha which fits the air motif that the Go-On Wings have. The big exception to that however are the big arms which are made from Toripter and Jetras. It's kind of a consequence of having the interchangeable arm gimmick so I don't know how they could've gotten around it. I still think Seikuu-Oh looks fine even with those arms. I really do like the head, with its fighter pilot look and how much it pops against the mostly blue body. Admittedly, while I did say I had gotten used to the anime eyes of the Engines, I'm not sure I can say the same for Jum-bowhale's head as the chest piece. It's kinda distracting.
Engine-Oh G9
Ok, now things are starting to get a little crazy. Engine-Oh G9 is pretty nuts, though I still do kinda like it. In particular, I quite dig the new faceplate and the new faceguard for Speedor. The massive wing pack created from Jum-bowhale does add a lot of bulk to G9. The weakest aspects about are probably Toripter and Jetras who are just sort of chilling up on top of the shoulders. I also kinda dislike how Engine-Oh original arms have to fold open so that Toripter and Jetras can sit on top. One one hand, it does help make the shoulders make the shoulders look slightly larger which helps give G9 a bigger sense of bulk; On the other hand, it results in the shoulders having visible hands sticking out.
Kyoretsu-Oh
I quite like Kyoretsu-Oh, specifically how it works thematically and compared to the other mechas. The combination of prehistoric animals and trains is quite fitting, after all trains were some of the first forms of motorized transportation giving them a sense of ancientness, which lines up well with prehistoric animals. The colour scheme, specifically that of Kishamoth, very much emphasize that ancientness with the maroon, black and gold colours. I quite like that the mecha form doesn't do the same transformation design as GunBir-Oh or Seikuu-Oh of having two components be the arms, instead T-line and K-line form the legs. The mammoth head for the chest is rather visually striking with how big it is and unlike GunBir-Oh chest which just kind of sticks out, Kyoretsu-Oh chest flows in well thanks to the better proportions The head design is pretty cool and very reminiscent of Daizyuzin with the two horns. About the only part I really don't like is the giant block on the back, it's very much just kibble
Engine-Oh G12
Ladies and Gentleman, it's time. It's the one, the only, it's the clusterf**k mecha, it's Engine-Oh G12. Probably the first thing that most people think of when it comes to overblown sentai mecha combinations, aside from the next series ultimate combination. The only response you can say to this is, what the hell is this thing? There's kind of an art form in how it manages to combine 12 different components into one single mecha. It's just a cacophony of insanity. I'm not sure where to begin talking about this. I guess I like that T-line and K-line become the arms which helps separate G12 from G6 and G9. I do like that the horns on Kishamoth now become part of the head design. The new attachments to Bus-on are neat though I don't get the point of the arms on the side of the legs. It's just, you really can't talk about any one individual aspect of G12, you really need to just take it in as a whole. And as a whole, it's one of the most ludicrous, most crazy combinations sentai has ever done. What can I say, it's the G12 formation.
GoRoader GT
While GoRoader doesn't have the -boy subtitle, it very much seems like it was designed after those mechas, specifically Tackle Boy as they pretty much share the same concept although GoRoader is better in pretty much every single way. It's better proportion and it's design doesn't look like a wheel with limbs. It's quite neat.
Engine Dai-Shogun
Funny how the movie mecha is samurai themed, and then the next sentai was also samurai themed. Anyways, Engine Dai-Shogun is pretty cool, I dare say I like it more than the regular Engine-Oh. It brings over all the good points of Engine-Oh, but it now has a really consistent colour scheme and new samurai addons which fit really well. It's a great remold of an already good looking mecha.
