Honestly I found ToQger emotional. It is a watered down Flashman in essence, but upon rewatching it I found I enjoyed it a lot more than the first time. Even despite some of its less-than-stellar characters such as the whole Rainbow Line crew*

But I agree with your main point. The 80s and 90s were Sentai's golden age. Current Sentai will have some good ideas here and there, and I do like that post-Gokaiger Sentai has been trying some new things, but for the most part these shows don't make good use of their material; it's too safe and too much the shiller of merchandise that at times doesn't even try to look believable. The sidearms in Zyuohger and Lupin vs Pat are examples of this.


*Actually, these side characters have been a constant problem with the most recent Sentais. They're completely irritating in their cartoony hijinks that would send other people into a sanitarium.)
