Why not just say that from the get go? Because a "vehicle" is defined as: a means of carrying or transporting something. That's what there "Mecha's" do, transport them to where a giant monster is destroying stuff. So that they can destroy it.

I honestly thought you were talking about, how there Mechas were actual vehicles this time around. Cars, planes, a bike etc
