That's only part of the story, from what I heard Maurice Leblanc already had a draft ready with the name sherlock Holmes written out, and only when the draft was ready did he reach out to Arthur Conan Doyle to ask for permission to use sherlock Holmes' character- to which Doyle utterly refused and I remember reading something about a lawsuit against Leblanc but I could be wrong
