Yeah, it's been a slight new rule of thumb since Kiva. Though not always used. Blade and Ryuuki were the only other series to really do that before Kiva, which is what got the idea started, but as of Kiva was when it was pushed more and became a more constant. Some minor exclusions and exceptions apply. It's a floating rule that changes based on the story in question and dynamics of the show. But it's something that's going to definitely become more common since Kiva and will likely continue happening. Ryuuki teased it with only two survive forms. Then Blade caused a reaction of people wanting to see the forms that weren't revealed, which is lost revenues on sales they don't want to miss out on again. Kabuto poked fun at it with a hyper battle video for Gattack. But then Kiva was the start of "well, they're right, we should do more side rider forms too." So it's something that's going to become more common going forward when it can happen.

Also should mention this:
Greased Lightning didn't happen because lightning is essentially concentrated condensed fire(how rapid the atoms move). And magma already was that, so the polar opposite was chosen, with emphasis on the 'polar'.

But it's still a passion so strong it burns like dry ice. Or as others put it:
"Fanning the flame so hard it goes out." Or more accurately, fanning the flame so hard it becomes freezer burn.
