I think he is talking about special effects in general. You have people that don't like to watch old movies, TV shows, and even anime because the special effects/animation looks dated. For example, most kids these days will think the original Night of the Living Dead is lame and stupid while shit like The Walking Dead is amazing and the best thing ever because it is more new. Same goes for video games with bad or dated graphics.
