The strongest point of the show from the beginming has been it's characters, and even if key plot episodes are stretched somewhat far apart, just about everyone has had moments to shine.

Heck, the continuing development betweem Kairi and Keichiro in particular has been the focus for a long while. Sure, the focus is far from equal for all seven, but calling the show 'afraid' of character development is nonsense.
