It's usually giant, crazy-looking MOTW's or giant mooks. A giant dinosaur is more like something Ultraman would fight, that's probably why you're getting those vibes.

But yes, a huge monster that's already giant and not a freak which grew big after being defeated once is nice for a change

Reminds me of Zyuranger, where the first giant monster was a giant itself.
