[Fish Sandwich]

I'm honestly getting more and more convinced this show is pretty special, but for whatever reason it's still not totally adding up.

The villains, for example, are a significant improvement over the last few years of Sentai in terms of having actual personalities. We're getting this huge ongoing subplot with Kreon's interactions with all the super neurotic commanders that keep showing up and its amazing. The gags with him melodramatically narrating are quite funny and I can't think of a Sentai where I've seen something like this off the top of my head. I also appreciate that the show choose to simply have Wyzul take a break instead of killing him off to make way for the new guy, which I think is another piece of evidence that Ryusoulger knows what it's doing.

There are lots of smaller details in Ryusoulger that I honestly find very clever. Like when Ui shows everyone the footage of Ryusoul Gold and Melto doesn't say anything while Koh remarks excitedly on how strong he looks, and Asuna seems mostly concerned with him being shiny. That's strong characterization right there and Ryusoulger does this kind of thing in every scene. They could've just had the main trio all react in a generic, samey way and it would've served the plot just as well, but it goes the extra mile.

But even having said all that, I only thought the episode was merely solid. Canalo seems interesting enough, and I like that the reason he gets to do the usual Sixth Ranger thing of being way cooler than everybody in his debut is specifically because he was a good matchup for the particular monster this episode. Again, a clever twist by Ryusoulger, but I feel like it should be clicking with me more by this point.
