I guess I liked how the plot hinged on Hiiro's regret about not treating the kid, but the movie expressed it in a very Hiiro "how dare this kid not let me demonstrate my greatness" kind of way. Like, he does not go full Naga in anguish. There are no tears from Hiiro. He's fighting for a chance to save a life, not to make someone smile. He's not going to embarrass himself the way Emu does. I thought that specificity was actually a high point of the film, and one of my favorite things about the core Riders in Ex-Aid: they genuinely dislike each other. There's grudging respect, and forgiveness, but they are not friends! That's a nice throughline for the show, and the movie honored that, I thought.
