The best Red I have ever seen, not a stupid loudmouth but a reserved, tactical leader who deeply cares about his team. Which was also great, every single member had something unique to add so the whole experience actually felt like a group that was more than just the sum of its parts.
Plus - the best sixth Ranger I have ever seen to boot. Misao is introduced as a big bad Ranger but once rescued he becomes such a unique figure that seemingly does not fit within the dynamic of the group but strangely enough that incompatibility is exactly what fuses them together. He has a fantastic character arc and I will never forget the scene where he rushes out of the hospital to stand by his friends.
Yeah the villains are lackluster, the overall story only scratches the surface of what's possible but still - to this day this is the best Sentai show I've seen, I actually miss it too, so I will absolutely rewatch it at some point.
It's a good argument for Zyuohger and I rank that series high as well, but I'm giving this to Go-Busters.
As for the rest:
- Shinkenger: Definitely followed it as it debuted. The team-up with Decade is honestly what swayed me to Heisei Riders.
- Goseiger: Another I followed when it first debuted, but that was becoming harder to do at the time.
- Gokaiger: Was not able to maintain cohesive following when it debuted. Have seen it multiple times since then, and while I do love it and believe that there remains a lot of potential (and footage) for Power Rangers to use, it tends to take the focus away from other Sentai too much.
- Kyoryuger: Didn't follow when it first debuted, and while many care for it, I haven't found it as amusing as I hoped it would be. That's not to say it isn't, but I feel as though something is lacking.
- ToQger: I definitely love this show and unlike most, firmly believe that it should become a part of Power Rangers!
- Ninninger: More veterans to attract attention! But why? They used Veteran Heroes to cover the lack of story and lack of character development, insofar as I can tell.
- Zyuohger: Approachable, fun, has a lot of potential if adapted, and the Red we got here is truly a different kind of Red all together!
- Kyuranger: Actually been re-watching this. Not terrible for what it tried to do, but it has a lot of villains blowing-up for the sake of an episode needing some big bad to blow-up, only for them to be fine or revived or not-really-dead two or three episodes later. Granted, there is the time travel arc, but that still doesn't totally fix this. For a Universe-Conquering Empire, Jark Matter pales in comparison to the Empire in Gokaiger! That said, Don Armage has more forms and actually does more than Akudos Gill!
- Lupinranger VS. Patranger: Also re-watched this recently. Yes, I agree that the show gave too much focus on the Lupins and didn't dive into the Pats enough. Also, the ending didn't really feel like an ending.
- RyuSoulger: Mecha designs need some work and the handling of the villains makes this feel too small.
I think I like Go-Busters for its plot and characters. The designs are different for Sentai and may take some time to for everyone to warm-up to. I didn't expect it to be adapted the way it has been, and I do see issues with the way it has been handled. Hope Beast Morphers Season 2 captures the magic!
Go for 2020!
