But I could never handle reading a story through individual comic issues, I'm a completionist so the risk of missing or losing an issue would stress me out too much. Plus, most of the comics I'm excited about these days originated as webcomics, and those pretty much never get physical releases as individual issues, it's always compilation volumes. Same goes for the manga I read, when it even gets an official English release at all.
Which isn't to say issues are bad or that I have anything against them! They're just not what works best for me.
Much of that is why people prefer the compilation volumes. With single issues, you run the risk of missing something and end up jumping too far ahead if you miss one issue but obtain the next one.
The bad part in my area is that there are so few choices. BAM is the only viable option, and they stopped selling new singles sometime ago. Compilation Volumes and Graphic Novels and Manga are retained, but the employees clearly don't know one from the other. I and a friend ended up helping someone find some DC volumes when the associate failed. Ultimately, the associate walked away as we were having more success!
