Sentai really wanted to take risk to make something new and they should have, but they always stick to their pattern on focusing on one character instead of making an ensemble series. It says something when Kamen Rider Ex-Aid treats the supporting Riders far better than Sentai's non Red Ranger.
I agree. IMO, what usually drags down the riskier seasons is that they always seem to chicken out at some point and try to force the story back into the traditional pattern, when it would be better to lean into the new ideas and embrace the potential they have.
And yeah, it's funny how for all Sentai's emphasis on teams, they often end up focusing on the Red ranger and leaving the others under-developed, while Kamen Rider tends to be better to its additional riders and supporting cast. I wonder if it's because the focus on being a unified team actually hinders the rangers from developing as individual characters?
