The problem with darker tone is that people usually misused it or wasted its potential. Yes, darker stories can be more compelling, but it needs to be done right. I think it's also impirtant that you can't really make the show depressing. Or at least if you want to, make it good.

Batman v Superman was widely criticized because theg are obssessed with dark tones, they ended up becoming too bleak and depressing. To me, if you want to make a dark story, you also need to include optimism. Nothing beats the idea of 'a glimmer of light in the dark', if you understand what that means.

On another note, I loved the storyline in Amazons season 2, however I hated that the gore becomes too gratuitous in it. Season 1 is violent, but season 2 felt like a bad fetish.
