I seem to be in the minority that doesn't hate Ghost all that much, but Takeru annoys me so much, because a big part of what was wrong with Ghost is that it had the most boring main Rider I've ever seen (granted, I've only seen from W to Build, and Zero-One). He's a wholesome sweet guy who just wants to help everyone be happy, and that's fine, but that's
all there is to him.
He doesn't have struggles with going too far like Eiji, or inspiring passion like Gentaro, or an aggressive side like Emu, or a dark past like Sento, or a dream for the future like Aruto. And it's such a shame because his situation of having a countdown too his death was so interesting and the writers could have gotten such good characterization out of it, but instead he gets no growth, no complexity, nothing. The only other main Ride I can think of who's as static is Haruto, and at least Haruto had style.
I wish he had been a worried hero, one who wasn't sure if he was up to the challenge and had to deal with the fear of knowing what was at stake, until eventually overcoming his doubts so that his "I believe in myself" catchphrase actually carried weight. There were a couple hints of that, but IIRC nothing ever came of it, he just moped invisibly for like half an episode and then was suddenly all better.
