I don't know what the show is doing with them beyond random monster fights and inconclusive Rider Battles. There's points (last episode) that feel like we've got to be close to the end, and then there's an episode like this one that you could plug in anywhere over the last twenty episodes.

Yeah, this time it felt too much like storylines that I thought they'd already resolved with Shinji. The whole Why Can't I Make Other Riders Understand That Fighting Is Wrong, followed inevitably by All I Can Do Is What I Think Is Right And Maybe That Can Be A Guide To Them... y'know, I definitely liked that story the first few times I saw it, a little less this go-around.

I mean, I like the way the show challenges Shinji's outlook and code. I like that his heroism is hard-fought. This one, I really thought he'd already learned this lesson, so watching him fall apart completely and get rebuilt in one episode, not going to be my favorite Shinji episode.
