I feel like we should archive the last handful of posts as a sort of warning to people who want to get into collecting.
I consider myself kinda lucky in that regard, because there's two major factors that stopped me from ever falling into buying more that what I could handle. The first one being the much more important one: Space.
I live in a really tiny house, so even if I did wanna buy everything under the sun, there's literally no way I could even store it, let alone display it. Before buying anything I was interested in, I asked myself. "Do I actually have a proper place to put this, especially given my current pre-orders?"
The other factor has to do with how I got into toy collecting rather late, and combine that with the fact that alot of my all time favorite characters tend to be on the more obscure side, this leads to the second limiting factor: Cost. Most of my faves are older and more obscure, action figure/merch-wise, so I've had to sit on and save up money in order to get them without, you know, going hungry.
Heck, this year might actually be the last year I can expand my collection for a long time, all things considered.
That said, I HAVE seen this sort of thing happen in person(although it's a bit of an extreme example). And as an outsider looking in, it was pretty sad.
A friend of a friend decided he wanted to start collecting Star Wars The Black Series. That in itself isn't a problem, but as time went on one of each wasn't enough. He had to have every edition of every character. And also multiples. And also other Star Wars merch being released recently because why not. And so on and so on.
It got the point he barely had any room in his house due to all the boxes that were coming in. He ended up needing an intervention to sell off a bunch of the stuff he'd been hoarding.
So yeah, cautionary tale: There's nothing wrong with collecting, and it can be rather fun, but be careful about it.
