I'm glad both that Switchblade mentioned this, and that you already picked up on it anyway. I don't remember really catching on to the significance the first time I watched the show, but in retrospect, I think there's something very neat about them not showing that happening until directly after that scene of Chalice having his hand slapped away by people he was trying to protect. It specifically reminds you how little he fits among humans right before raising a bunch of new questions about what exactly he is at all. Just a cool little bit of structure.

I think there's also something to be said for the show having both Chalice and Hajime get rejected by people. It makes it bigger than just A Scary Masked Rider Is Scary, it makes it a deeper schism. There's a level of rejection here, where there's something innately wrong with Hajime (or humanity!) that can't be obscured by a different face.

Yeah, I can see that. It's... I don't love that as the end of the story? It feels too abrupt, for how much work was done bringing Hajime and Jin together.
