Oh, yeah, it's not an organization problem at all. It's shelf stock, then restock, then backstock, then held books. One person grabs a stack off the wall, another person scans them, repeat ad infinitum. It's just individually scanning the barcodes of thousands of books. It doesn't really matter what order you scan them in, since the database will calculate everything at the end of the process.

It can be zen, a little relaxing, even... for the first few hours. After that, it's this Sisyphean struggle where there are somehow always more books, no matter how many you've already scanned. It's an inventory process we should really do more often, but it's such a god-awful slog that we only do it when it's a necessity.
