The tone doesn't shift so much as it darkens. The outside has some bits of levity, with Kotaro sniping at Hajime and Amane sticking up for him. Even the missing bird is, like, it's a bird? It's probably going to be okay. When the camera pulls inside, the room is darker than the bright outdoors, signifying that this part is serious. It's about a dead ("dead") friend, a lost ally, and a bunch of guilt.

I didn't really think beyond the first two, but if I'm picking a third thing, it was getting to talk about this scene from Build:
