So, right away, the thing I loved most about that premiere was how unafraid it was to make Liu Bei look utterly pathetic. He gets hit on the head at least what? Half a dozen times? It's a real risk for the story to take because it gives the audience a hero they can't look up to, and yet, it's a brilliant choice because it gives them a hero they can
relate
to. For me, at least, it definitely got me excited about the idea of seeing this guy grow into something greater over the course of the series. I thought it was a really fun 24 minutes!

I can maybe explain this hopefully! These are subjects I
absolutely cannot claim to be an authority on
, so I might get something wrong here, but, from what I know or could find, there's three things that might be pretty relevant here:
-
Many languages took a while to develop a true distinction between the colors we call blue and green.
- The fictionalized portrayal of the historical Guan Yu in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, clearly an influence on this series, wielded a weapon known as
the Green Dragon Crescent Blade
, written with a character for green that could just as easily mean blue (靑).
- I'm going to go ahead and assume that weapon was itself named in reference to what's commonly known in English as
the
Azure
Dragon
, a figure in Chinese mythology who has long suffered from this exact color-related identity crisis.
So, despite not visibly matching what's on the screen, the choice of subtitle here could very well be considered correct in a technical sense.
