With Shuki only showing up (or even discussed) in two episodes, I think it's understandable if the specifics of her backstory are left to the viewer's imagination. She's been around for a long time, and she's clearly okay with pursuing power, so her learning some special magical skills maybe doesn't need a ton of elaboration.

I mean, if someone wanted to eventually tell that story? Awesome. I'd love to get a deeper read on Shuki. But I'm not sure it's something for the TV show to try and nail down at this point.
