Hi there! Long time lurker — but I’ve seen a lot of people theorize upgrades for Buster, Kenzan, and Slash based on the extra space around their book slots in the show, and wanted to clear up what seems to be a frequent misunderstanding.

Here are photos of my DX versions of Buster’s Gekidou, Kenzan’s Hayate, and Slash’s Suzune. As you can see, the toy versions don’t have the extra space seen in the show — that’s only done for the show props so the swords can be sized up more.




If I had to guess, if Buster/Kenzan/Slash do get upgrades, I'd imagine we'll either see

• a new belt for the three of them that doesn't have a function other than opening books without making noises ( like the CaliburDriver and it's repaint for the base of the SaikouDriver )

• a regular-sized, thick book that will fit into the three swords ( similar to Saikou's book) that store all the upgrade noises in the books (like how Jaou Dragon, Dragonic Knight, or King Lion DaiSenki work)

• OR a book like the Snipe/Brave Dual Gashat from Ex-Aid, with different modes to activate between the three Riders.

But yeah, the three blades don't have much function like the Seiken Swordriver does, so if the three of them ever do get a shared upgrade, I have to imagine the swords will play a secondary part in the deciding factors -- but they might also get designated Gridon/Bravo status and only keep their base suit all show long while Saber/Blades/Espada or Calibur get upgrades -- I'm curious to see what happens with Ikazuchi & Kurayami now that their current wielders are taken off the board, I highly highly doubt that's the last we've seen of either sword.
