I'd say this is a coincidence too, as Zi-O was pretty consistent about not pulling too much from the Showa era, but I could see a designer consciously making that connection after coming up with the initial idea to have the watch band on the face and then leaning into it.

Either way, V3's weird maggot face is one of my favorite Rider helmet designs (I love ZO and J's suits), so I think you DID just crack the mystery of why I legitimately love Zi-O Trinity so much!
