My big issue with Saber is the pacing. I don’t think there are too many characters, but it feels that way because they were all thrown at us in the first five or so episodes. I wish they’d handled the Riders more like Den-O did with the Imagin: new character appears in a two-parter, then there’s a two-parter that focuses on them, then we get the next character. Ren would still suck, yeah, but at least I’d have a better sense of why he sucks so much.

As for Mei, I’ve been really pleasantly surprised by her. At first I thought she was just going to be obnoxious comic relief - she gives me big Shunpei vibes. She’s really grown on me a lot in the last few weeks, though. It’s almost like sequestering most of the cast off to the side and on,y giving them one or two scenes allows the other characters room to grow or something. Also, her posture has been improving; the constant bending over annoyed me a lot for reasons I don’t understand.
