Yeah, I think this episode does a real This Is The Finale statement in the opening, when Kagami's thrilled at their inevitable victory and Tendou's waiting for the final shoe to drop. While I partially appreciate the bluntness of telling the audience not to get too comfortable, the fact that you have to tell them because everything else looks the story ended weeks ago (or, in some interactions, never started?), I'm not sure that's something you'd need to do in a better story.

As you said, an oddly mellow tone for the last ever Kabuto story!
