He used to be a good guy.
Desast has apparently killed swordsmen from the Sword of Logos.
He could also have been different once.

Hell, Hayate seems to have been a lovely man and wonderful father, but he jumped off the deep end at some point, seeing as he was willing to sacrifice an innocent little girl.
And there is also the fact that, I say again as you elected to ignore it, that the Sword of Logos itself is clearly not completely a good organisation in it - Reika is clearly up to no good, and it’s possible that Desast, and/or other evil swordsman worked with her, or still work with her outside of the Northern Base’s gaze.

Again, I’m not a hard stan for the idea or anything, but you’re being more than a little facetious to say ‘he’s killed people so he can’t ever have been a good person’ when Kamijo did exactly that and Hayate was intending to, and both were with the SoL.
Hell, even Cross-Z New World tried to make Evolto sympathetic, although it was terribly done in my opinion.
