I guess I'd push back a little on that appraisal by highlighting the problem as the season-long villain arc, not necessarily the show itself. The show has plenty to recommend it for, not the least of which are the hero arcs. Tendou and Kagami have outstanding stories devoted to their individual development, as well as their friendship. Hiyori gets some intriguing spotlights in the first half. Drake and Gon's story is worth a show of its own. Tsurugi is an adorable jerk becoming an adorable hero. Even Yaguruma and Kageyama's story has some exciting, unpredictable notes in it.

Like, I think the show is still great, even if the lack of thought/care/energy/interest put into the season-long villain arc is a problem.
