If you're needing the paint to stick to the plastic better, I recommend using fine sandpaper to sand off the plastic finish (like 800 - 1000 grit).

Some people also hand-paint primer. That is an option.

Edit: Also if you use primer, you cannot paint with a Gundam marker directly, you must pump it out and use a brush.
