It's a show - a fucking Kamen Rider series, at that. You aren't supposed to like everyone. It's okay for characters to be despicable and flawed. We're the audience - we are literally being spoonfed information that is supposed to lead us to certain conclusions, for the time being.

We need a character like Ren - a rookie, just like Touma.

Mental illness can explain Ren's actions but it doesn't justify them. Kusaka was also a psychopath but that doesn't mean he was a good guy or a victim of some condition. His actions were still his own, he manipulated people, he knew what he was doing and he didn't care about anybody's desires beyond his own. Mitsuzane is the worst case of this though.

In Ren's case, his philosophy that strength is justice lacks nuance which is why he couldn't accept that Kamijo defeated Kento. He's like an AI being told a paradox and can't understand the truth is more complicated than it seems on the surface. However, Ren made a choice to antagonize Touma instead of giving him a chance to explain himself. That's not a problem with Ren's philosophy, that's just a problem with Ren.
